Default 'bout to order a nelson tune

I got a stupid question real quick. Just how "firm" does it make the tranny shift?

My buddy told me he got a shift kit installed in his truck and when simply cruising the whole truck would jerk and it got real annoying real quick.

How much firmer then stock will it shift when just cruising? how about when no **** racing someone? or simply flooring it for the hell of it.

Thanks

Also on this subject since my other question was answered so thouroughly..

The shift firmness is it equivelent in feel to what it feels like when tow/haul is turned on?

With the shift kit it depends how many washers are used in the install and also depends on what the line pressures are set at in the tune. You can discuss with allen how you want it to shift, and yes they will shift hard if you want them too. I have mine setup to shift fairly hard, even at part throttle. I hate slow shifts, mine is enought that if you are drinking something you dont want to be when it shifts. Not sure if this really answered anything for you but.... You are referencing your buddies setup with a shift kit but a shift kit and a tune are two seperate things, do you plan to add a shift kit? If so then make sure you mention that to Allen when discussing everything.

I 2nd 03sierraslt's comment about the Nelson Tune and shift kit being different. The best way to take advantage of a shift kit is with a tune.

On the shift kit it's all user preference. I'm probably the opposite of 03sierraslt. I don't like very hard shifts. When I first put my shift kit in per the transgo instructions I put 1 washer in the 1-2 accumulator and it was chirping the tires what seemed like all the time. I took the washer out and it was better but still too jarring. I put the 1-2 accum back in its stock configuration (with the upgraded alum piston) and it was perfect for me, firm but not jarring. Really just have to play around with it if it's not how you like it. That's probably what your buddy should do too.

The only reason why I would want a shift kit is because I heard the 4L-60E's are garbage once you start tuning let alone stock. If it weren't for that I wouldn't put in a shift kit.

Now I notice on the site that I can have the firmness to feel like stock at part throttle and firm at WOT. What would the firmness feel like at part throttle? I sent them an emai lwith no response maybe a phone call is in order.

Also speaking of the tranny. Is a shift kit really necessary? Or would a tranny cooler suffice for now. Maybe one day down the road I'll get a tranny rebuilt.

Shift kit and servoes and also a tranny cooler with really help the tranny out, both in performance and life.

I have a shift kit and a Nelson Tune. I put in 2 washers and it shifts pretty hard from 1-2 the rest of the shifts are fine. I told Nelson to leave the line pressure stock. Now every time I drive my wifes car It feels like the Tranny is slipping because it shifts too smooth, LOL!!
