Default 5.3 pcm for a 6.0 motor?

A friend of mine just got his 99 model 5.3 replaced with a 6.0. They left his factory pcm in the truck and it is running on that but he said the truck feels kinda slugish. I would think there would be quite a lot of difference between a pcm with 5.3 tables and values and a 6.0 right? Also, I have a full licence for 02 and 03 trucks with my HPT. What would be involved for him to put a 02 (non DBW) pcm in his truck so I can program it for him? I know the factory radio would have to be fixed by a dealer but would it jive ok with the BCM? Thanks in advance...

I put a 2002 5.3 PCM in my truck with no problems at all. The alternator light will flash all the time unless you add a wire to the harness. Just a deal with the 99's. But it will work fine. I had the same issue. It ran on the 5.3 but was doggy. Ran a good bit better with the 6.0 engine tables. Remember, dont just try flashing in a full 6.0 file. Youll just want to copy all engine tables only and flash that in. Its a good starting point IMO.

There are quite a few differents values in in alot of tables (maf, misfire tables spark tables, ect) the best thing to do is use the compare feature and change all the tables. I don't think you will have any problems with the radio and you may have to do a sucruity relearn, but I'd take a 02 pcm with a 5.3 4l60e tune and copy past all of the Engine tables from a 6.0l file.

You can fix that alternator thing without adding the wire. Just disable the L and F terminal circuit codes or whatever their called, set them to "no error reported" and youll be just fine.

Just find a 5.3L file and do a copy over of all the engine tables from a 6.0 file, from an 02 OS that is. You will need the 02 pcm also.
