2008 nnbs 5.3 into 2000 sierra knock sensors?
#1
Well im almost done with the swap of my sierra its a 2008 nnbs 5.3 aluminum block.. now my question is to wire the knock sensors i just have to get some pigtails for the nnbs knock sensors and split up the harness find the signal and ground and put them together right with my 2000 sierra harness? Anyone done this before? Also anyone got pictures of their bracket for hooking up their cables for the throttle body with a NNBS intake manifold?

I did some reading for you and it seems that all you need to do is extend your 00' knock sensor harness to reach the new knock sensor locations and you are set.
The NNBS intake manifold has a much larger intake opening, so upgrading to a 90mm aftermarket cable driven unit would be a wise investment. This still requires custom cable bracket mounting, but it doesn't look terribly hard.
I was just planning on beating mine into shape (going on an 02' LQ4, but swapping the 243 heads and intake on), but a simple cut and weld job should do the trick.

Do i really need to drill the block to put my gen3 sensors or can i use the gen4 ones and ground 1 of the cables from each side like racetronix harness conversion and modify with hp tuners?

HP tuners cannot alter the knock sensor type. For your application drill the block and install the OE 2000 knock sensors. EFI live can change them but your 00 computer may not even have the capability. The newer 01 up puters you can change them SUPPOSEDLY via EFI live and then repin the pcm and they are supposed to work.

I'll ask but for his app on a 2000 pcm he may still be SOL.
The 01 up 12270411 pcm has the capability for sure but verifying if it works once changed over in the software no one on any forum anywhere has commented back with a hard YES it works. I'm in the process of this now on my TA because I'm stubborn and want it to work correctly with the flat response knock sensors. Gong to get a local to me tuner to switch it over and do all the experiments on it.

It can be done on a 2000 silverado BUT it takes a little creative tuning since a 2000 doesnt have the tables needed to change the knock sensor type. However a 2002 OS# 12212156 does have the tables needed in order to change the type of knock sensors. I use efi live to make the changes since the tables are in efi live and it doesnt take multiple license to do all the switching around of tunes and OS's.

If you don't want to re-drill the block, you can remove one motor mount bolt on each side of the engine, preferably one of the easier ones to get to, and the knock sensors should thread right into block.
