Default 2005 cluster question

My wife has a 05 sierra and the original cluster everything worked except the prnd321. So first thing change was the rocker switch for dimming dash seeing it was funky and would change dimness while driving. So I figured it's the cluster seeing they have issues.

I bought a 05 denali cluster for a trans temp and hoping the PRND321 would show up

Well still doesn't work. Would my trans shift indicator be bad? Hard to believe i have two bad clusters with this issue

Also the new cluster won't let me see miles with the steering wheel controls now wtf

But I can push the button on the dash and it changes

The programing is probably different between the 2 clusters.

It is possible that both displays are bad. Without seeing it work in a another vehicle how do you know it was good???

Even the display at the bottom can go bad on those things. Sometimes the circuit boards also go bad.

Thanks man, I guess I'll have to find another truck to swap it to check. The programming you speak of that would make the one steering wheel control not work? Would a tech 2 be able to reprogram?

The tech2 can not reprogram on its own.

You also need to know what your doing when flashing files into differnt modules.

If the PRNDL does not light, there is an issue with the cluster. A faulty NSS would simply cause no gears to be highlighted.

The controls not working is a result of the programmed RPOs in the cluster not matching the RPOs programmed in your BCM.

Gotta take it to a dealer and get the cluster reflashed to match the VIN of your truck for all of the DIC functions and displays to work correctly. Wont do anything for the PRNDL. You need another cluster or vehicle to swap between to verify operation.

Can you solder? I'll tell you exactly how to fix your original cluster.
