Default 04 pcm compatible with 05

I'm getting ready to do a 80e swap and found an 04 pcm I was thinking I could use for a spare and just get it programmed for the 80. Then when I swap the trans I could just swap the pcm also. Does anyone know if there are any differences between the 04 and 05 pcm's?

Yes, an 04 PCM will work just fine. I've done it a number of times without any problems.

Will actually be trying that this weekend. Will be using an 05 Custom OS on a 2006 truck. I suspect there will be no problems.

How does the 04 control the fans?

It does have the one control, but i thought the 05 and up controlled them differently

If the proper wiring is there on the harness and the 05 calibration has them configured like it should (stock setting), it won't matter which PCM it is.

I got an o4 pcm from Allen Nelson for my 06 STS Denali about 8 months ago. I have always been curious about this question myself. I still have my 06 pcm and HPTuners now. Truck doesn't run that good as it did before the STS install but I am working on logging and getting it back to Allen for a refresh. Please keep us updated on this topic.
