Default Well, I have a decision to make..

Ok, so anyhowwww...

I bought an lq4 a while back, hoping to build a 408 out of it and stick it in my old truck. Well, now that it is totaled, I have a new truck and will soon be getting my business license, I cant do the 408.

I have to use the new ride for a DD and I will be towing a trailer between 20 and 100 miles everyday(dependant on jobsite). I also have a 3yr/36k warranty on this truck. So I have to keep in reliable.

Here are my choices: Sit on the motor for a while longer and build a strong 6.0 out of it and put it in my truck a year or two down the road, sell it outright, or trade it for a little bit older laptop from my buddy so I can do some tuning on my truck.

Basicly, I'll lose my *** on it no matter what I do, and if I build it, I wont be able to afford any other mods for a several months. If I sell it out right I can just buy some more mods for my truck, but I doubt Ill be able to get more than $800 for it. If I trade it, Im trading a $1200 engine for a $400 dollar laptop, and I know my buddy doesnt have much cash to give me for it.

Here are the mods I want for my truck like right now:
-Long tubes w/ full exhaust
-Eaton diff and Mag-hytech cover
-Denali headlights
-Some stuff color matched
-Escalade handles
-Goodmark hood
-Centerline Stingray III's
-Chrome GMC side moldings(purchased today, $250...ouch)
-Lowered 2" (2wd ubolt purchased today, like $50 I think)(still need keys or spindles)
-Radix
-Airbag helpers

...the list goes on, but I cant remember it all..

Right now, I have about $5500 to play with. $1500 is going for Lisence/bond/ins, Which leaves me $4k. I have to find an enclosed trailer to put all my tools in, probably about $2k. That leaves me $2k to spend right now, then I will be broke..

I was thinking......just do wheels, airbags and lowering for now, and then work on everything else later.

Or do bags now, along with my other exterior stuff..

If I sell the motor, I can do one or two extra things, or I can trade it and get HpTuners..

I know this whole post is probably confusing, but Ill edit it later...

This probably isn't what you want to hear, but I would wait until the business stabilizes, you're confident there won't be any surprise expenses, the profits start rolling in, and you have enough money to really do some mods, and have a safety cushion of cash. But then again I'm an old man who is overly cautious with money.

Or sell it and keep the cash to see where the business stabilizes (you might need groceries ) and then 6 months down the road you'll have $$$ to spend on the truck because you'll have worked hard to get the business going good so you can do the mods. The mods will be extra incentive to put all your energy into the business and that's where the energy/attention need to go for the next few or several months. (Also an old man but one who has NOT been cautious with money and has learned what happens when he's not. I'm 63 and because of my past shenanigans I'l never be able to retire. Gotta work until I can't work no more. Truth.)

What class of business are you starting? If you go S corp or C corp, you will need to buy your own stock. You can then "invest" the 4k into your business. Get the truck refinanced, if possible, in the business name and then everything is tax deductible - payment, interest, insurance, tires, oil, and GAS! Even mods can be deducted. Since you tow, you need the added torque of headers and such. This also counts for laptops (buy from from a store).

Regardless, consult an accountant about business entities. There are distinct advantages to each. I went S Corp myself. It keeps everything separate from personal property and gives some nice tax benefits.

As far as the motor goes, if you are not going to use it now, then sell it. You will always be able to pick up another one down the road.

I sure would like to have a extra lq4......

I'd sell it. You could run across a better deal on a engine later on.

if you are starting your business I wouldnt worry about modding the truck, have that money as a cushion just incase you need it until the business starts turning around where you are making good profit.. as of the motor, I would sell it out right, and just use the money you get out of the motor for mods for now...
