Veteran's SS#'s Stolen
#11
I got my letter, but knew about the problem long before(thank you FOX NEWS CHANNEL!) and made sure I wasn't going to be hassled. They think the "loss" was incidental and not planned based on what I heard on various news channels over a week or so.

Steps you can take:
It's an automated process that takes about five minutes.
1. Call TransUnion at 800-680-7289
2. Press 9 for military personnel requesting a fraud alert due to
the VA theft
3. Enter your five digit zip code
4. Enter your social security number
5. Enter your six digit date of birth (MM/DD/YY)
6. Enter the number part of your address (if you live on 123 Main
St, enter 123)
7. Enter your 10 digit daytime phone number (111-111-1111) (I used my cell number) You will be given the option to give a second evening number. ( Home telephone)
8. Confirm your information and you are set
Keep in mind that this procedure will make it difficult to open credit
lines at a business, since if they follow the fraud alert you will have
to wait for a phone call to confirm that you are indeed the one opening
a credit line. This is NOT a permanent alert! I believe it only lasts
six months, so if you wish it to continue you will need to reprocess it.
Its not too hard, get er done. Its a lot harder to fix your credit after some dirtbag screws it up
