Default New toy

My dad and I finally picked out a Jeep. It's his, but I'll be doing all of the work to it as we go.

Mostly stock 06 Rubicon with 12,700 miles. It's got a 2" budget boost with Rancho shocks, a CB radio, some handles, a tow bumper in the rear, and it's set up to be towed behind another vehicle. All we would need is the tow bar.

I'm going to take her out Sunday and see how she does. Initial plans in the works are about a 4 to 4.5" short arm lift kit and some 33's. Winch and bumper up front, rock sliders, nice rear bumper w/ spare tire carrier, and possibly some upgrades to the stock roll cage.

Finally home

Set up to tow. Also has black headlight bezels. I like them...we got the stock chrome ones too.

2" spring spacers and Rancho shocks

Interior shots. We got the stock floor mats, as well as these plastic ones to trap water and dirt and crap.

CB in overhead mount

Soft top, brand new, never used.

Well, if I had it my way, we would have bought a junker YJ with a blown up engine or something for less than $1000. That sucker would have gotten either a 5.3 or 6.0 with a 4L60E I wanted something that we could take out and beat the **** out of without really caring too much. Dad didn't want a project though, and he's the one with the checkbook, so it was his call. This Jeep is really nice, can't complain too much except that we're going to have to be a lot more careful with it so it doesn't get beat up too bad.

Maybe in a few years I can pick up a blown up TJ for next to nothing and build myself something for less money that will kick this Jeep's ***

Enjoy it, I miss my Jeep. The only problem is every time I took it out, I got it stuck. I offroaded with 2 wheel drive longbed trucks for years and never got stuck, then I bought a Jeep, stuck some 32s under it and buried it every time. I guess my stop-and-think-about-it-meter stopped with the Jeep.

IMO jeeps are a better offroad vehicle then the K5s due to having a tighter turning radius and being lighter. Dana 44s front and rear for the 06s. with the 4" i put on my dads 33s its amazing how much better it handles offroad. Chris if i were you i would go with a long arm kit, a bit more of pita to install but you get alot more articulation and nicer ride.
