Default mi gas mileage just got a whole lot better LOL

Well... after smelling a faint gas smell for a couple weeks... And it finally getting worse, I decided to take a look and see what was going on...

So, I pull the bed to realize, the pump was resting on the bottm of the bed (bed holding it down) and the lock ring had come undone

Everytime I filled it up past 1/2 and come to a redlight or take a turn, I'd smell gas. I figured it was the vent hose or something loose and it wasnt a huge deal... I was averaging between 8-9mpg and was PISSED... I couldnt find anything in the tune or any bad sensor to cause it... I scratched my head and continued to pour gallons and gallons of 93 to waste...

When I pulled it in the shop, and yanked the bed. I had about 1/8 tank of gas... I put the pump back down and turned the key back on, it jumped to about a 1/2 I was finally figuring out why I was getting about 200 miles to a tank average... The lightbulb came on

I used to "fill up" and drive for 40 miles and the needle would move a lot off full... I just filled up on the way home about an hour ago, drove 40 miles, its still above full

If you are getting TERRIBLE mileage and just cant seem to figure out why??? pull the bed and take a look ha ha ha... This should make the gas bill for my road trip coming up a little easier to handle now anyway... carry on...

evap code probably....could set when the gas cap is left off so i would think it would trip when the pump is out of the tank....the tank needs to be sealed to hold a small vacume to help with the fumes as i understand it....
