Default its really difficult...

...to continue with this sport of going fast when people keep letting you down. I have R&R'd my transmission no less than 10 times in the past 2 years, 3 of them in the past 2 weeks. And right now i am literally limping my truck 600 miles home because i used a proprietary shift kit from a company that claims to be absolutely unrivaled when it comes to building 4l80e transmissions. I wont name any names just yet because i would really like to see them work this out. However if they choose not to live up to their name, performance trucks, ls1tech and a myriad of other forums can expect a very thorough flaming of the company with plenty of examples and references.

Anyone else bought products or had services performed by a company that talked themselves up but completely failed to deliver?

Yep, cost me a lot of money multiple times. That's why I do absolutely everything myself, except for tuning which I'm working on. Vince B or Gilbert over at Ace would be the ONLY people I'd trust with a transmission. I've got a local guy who is good, but I only use him on stock rebuilds or mild performance builds.

My biggest loss at the hands of TWO companies that supposedly knew what they were doing were Wiseco and JE piston companies. Both of them failed to deliver a piston design that wouldn't burn oil and egg shape my cylinder walls with a 4.1" crank so I lost TWO stroker motors because of it. It's what caused me to take an almost 3 year break from messing with this crap. After that I vowed my motors would be spec'd and built by me and the last couple I've built are running fine.

Same here, the engines I've built have far exceeded the other junk I've bought from "master builders"
