If I had a full race truck like Mitch, maybe... But I want my truck to be something my grandma could hop into and drive if she needed to. Just add the little disclaimer about how not to push the pedal too far..
its not bad driving w/ manual valve body, even if it was a dd. grandma might need a throttle stop.

Lol. Yeah, among other things. There are some things I noticed in posts on the forums that sort of red flag that company, for instance..

https://www.performancetrucks.net/fo...2/#post4828738

There are mechanical engineering textbook references that prove that straight cut gears are in fact stronger, contrary to what is claimed. I really need to start trusting my intuition more. I always call BS in my head when I see it, but end up giving people the benefit of the doubt anyway. So I gotta stop doing that lol. Seriously, General Motors wouldn't develop the 4L85e with straight cut gears in extreme duty applications if the gears were weaker, I mean come on.. GM has a few more liabilities with their products than Jake's Performance, so GM can't really afford to be wrong here. And a company saying GM is wrong about such an extensively engineered part is REALLY absurd.

That's just one example I've seen. As a forewarning to anyone looking to do custom modifications of any nature, if a company goes completely against the grain, don't be naive like me and assume they're right...do your own research. It pays off, literally.

I'm pretty sure your fine. Jake's performance has gained a "fair" reputation up to this point because their stuff should/does work when all goes according to plan. If their products really were crap they wouldn't be in business.

However, I was a bystander during Smokeshow's transaction with Jake's performance and saw/heard enough to form an opinion of what happened and to me... Jake's performance has a chip on his shoulder, hot headed and just a shitty attitude for whatever reason. Reasons I say this is as follows:

1) They were very unhelpful, arrogant, and rude to Smokeshow when he first inquired about purchasing a valve body from them. Smokeshow's too nice of a guy to make a big stink about it, but I've dealt with shops like that before who just want your money and could give a **** about what you have to say or ask concerning the product or work being performed. Jake's performance had an attitude problem and because of that their customer service IS ****.

(I'm not worried about being a nice guy because the internet gives me powers and I transform into a tough guy! )

2) They sent him a bunch of junk which shows lack of quality control or attention to detail. How else would you explain selling a "proprietary valve body" and forget to drill oil relief holes in it(as part of the design aspect of the modifications) and then also forget to send him a Sonnax boost valve?

3) Upon being informed of their mistakes they play it off saying that you can drill the hole yourself and that the Sonnax boost valve is unnecessary...then why the **** is it in there?

4) After burning up his transmission up again and calling Jake's Performance, they finally take notice and try to salvage their customer service reputation and help out but to such a limited extent that after three transmission pulls and two rebuilds and two installs...how much money, time and effort has the client wasted on trying to make his product work?

There are a few vendors here that have a spotless reputation (KBracing, Trick Performance, Richard@WCCH, etc...) and that's because they are HUMBLE. Richard and Kyle will talk to you into the night just because they are super friendly guys and like talking with people. But Jake's performance dropped the ball here in this instance.

So again, I'm sure your fine, their product isn't the main issue, it's their customer service, attention to detail and concern for the products they send out.

Sorry Smokeshow... you know I've wanted you to open up a little more about this so I took it upon myself!!

He said it...having humility when dealing with customers goes a long way.

I have wanted to open up about this, and by nature I'm not really that nice of a guy lol...but I have made my opinion known countless times in the past and it either falls on deaf ears or the person/company retaliates like I am the bad guy. So more often than not I just keep my mouth shut now. I'm tired of being that person to call everyone out on their BS because it eventually comes off as just complaining.

Bottom line...if you have to tell people you're the best in the business, you're not.
