So I was trying to install my cam last night... I get to where i'm putting the cam guide plate back on and yup, I over tighten one of the bolts and crack the plate!!! Anyway, I go to every dam part store in town and nobody has one. I goto the salvage yard and the guy told me they don't sell internal engine parts, only complete engines... Well, he has a 4.8L sittin there, complete from the throttle body down to the oil pan, manifolds and all, and it even turns out it's an 06 also, like mine... Only one problem tho, It was a core exchange from someone who bought a good running engine from them... Anyway, I asked him how much he wants for it thinking he would prob want 2 to 300 bucks cuz a good running 06 4.8 would probably run about 8 to 1200 bucks around here, but he said I could ave it for 100 bucks! I told him I'd think about it and get back to him a little later. I call him up about an hour later thinkin I'll take it for 100 bucks but at the last second decide to offer him 75 bucks just for fun... And he said its a deal!!
Now i'm all worried on the way home thinking the whole motor is probably shot. I get home and start strippin it down. I started at the oil pan, and nothing! It looks new! No shavings, no nothing! Well I figure, tear the heads off. And BAM!! Its got dished pistons! Its a 5.3!!! LOL. But anyway, Still nothing! It looks great... So the last thing, I pulled the lifters and yup, ONE bad lifter! Hardly any wear on the cam. I'm all kinds of happy! Basically an almost new 5.3 for 75 BUCKS! Besides, who would wanna run a stock cam anyway? LOL
