just wanted to start a thread on this, cause here for the last 2weeks im hearing it is getting worse and worse here in town... alot of people getting laid off, stores closing, malls in financial trouble, a friend of mine went out to a good restaurant on saturday night that is always real full with a waiting line on a weekend and he said that day he could count the empty tables in there that it was a very surprising think to see and also in the malls there are stuff 70-80% off and salesman say its still really slow even with huge savings like that...i mean i really never thought about it but looks like it is going to ****! i mean i have always had a secure job were im at but we had a few meetings and pretty much it aint looking good, they said it is getting bad money wise at work and that we will be seeing work slow way way down here soon, they said to try and cut back on alot of extra cost..... i think i am pretty much way up the ladder maybe in the top 5-10% at work but it still gives me the chills thinking that it could be that bad and be without a job, i have a little $ cushion but i know its going to be hard getting back up in my feet, since my family rely's on my paycheck...... so guys post up how are seeing things in your area.... and start hidding some $ under your mattress just in case...
please leave any political b.s. out of this thread....

ive got a good lil bit saved up and lil more in the gun safe..
i work out on the road, so im home much.
Want to quit this job cause it sucks so bad.. but i dunno. Money is ok. and we have a future schedule thats goin to keep everybody busy for quite some time.
And all the screw ups that come out of the plant cause of the lazy union workers is job security for us. Cause they sure aint goin to fire them, that discrimination..

Yes, same here. It is slowing down for sure. It get's like this every year at this time but there is an uncertain uneasy feeling in the air. The work we do comes from the micro-circuit, medical and military and all fabrication seems to be grinding to a halt.
Mervins (a big department store chain) is closing down. Macy's and the rest of the mall stores are having huge sales.
Don't stuff the mattress, buy ammo....he who has the last round wins

oilfield is startin to slow down with the price of oil going down. its bit scary, with how rapid the price went up and stayed there, then all of a sudden came down fast. drilling has stopped for alot of companies

there's talk in the local news and the newspaper that the economy here in Louisiana
is doing pretty damn good compared to the rest of the country. i guess that could be attributed to our oil and gas industry. there are jobs all over the place and the pay is good. people are buying new vehicles left and right, also home and property sales are still up.

doing great here in the golden triangle, with the refinery expansions and such, but got news yesterday valero has postponed there new expansion do to economic problems to an undefinate time frame. all others are going strong..if it wasnt for the oil gas here this would be a ghost town.
