I've heard just to heat cycle them. Install them and crank it up, let it idle for ten min., shut it off, then do the same thing after letting it cool for a bit. IDK if this works as well as baking the paint or not though. How are you planning on getting the paint that's on the headers now off, or are you just going to scuff it up and paint over it?

I painted my pacesetters...they lasted all of about 20 seconds before the paint peeled off. Someone told me the reason it did that was because i didn't bake it on first...I dunno.

When I painted my Hooker Super Comps on my G-body, I first sand blasted them down to bare metal. Than I wiped them down with acetone and made sure to not touch them with my hands. (wore gloves). Then after they dried I hung them up and used the VHT high temp paint...not some Home Depot Grill paint. I sold the car about 10 years later and it was still on there looking good. I even ran it lean one time and "glowed" one of the primary tubes and it still held up! Prep is the main thing. To try to paint over paint, or paint over oily fingerprints is worthless.
PS VHT high temp coating (in an aerosol can...I know Jeg's sells it) is THE ****. Seriously, it worked great!!!
