Default (Cali guys in here) What is there to do is Pismo Beach or around there?

Hey guys, the wifey and I are headed out to the central coast of cali at the end of February. First of all, I don't know if I should rent a V6 mustang or Chevy Impala. Anyone ever driven a new mustang? How do they drive? Good for road tripping around the state? How're the headlights for night vision? (I don't see the best at night). So what're some cool attractions we should see? Is it realistic to make a day trip to see the redwood forest? I at least want to drive the PCH for one of the days Throw some suggestions at me.

awesome part of the state! pismo has some great dunes if you want to rent some sand toys. wine tasting about an hour north in paso robles and some right wineries even closer in arroyo grande. natural hot springs in aliva (about 10 minutes away) dive bars in pismo. college town called san luis obispo about 20 minutes north (bars, live music, thursday night farmers market, chics, food etc). hearst castle a couple hours north. redwoods are a bit further. tons of cool small towns around: cambria, cayucos, montana de oro state park, morro bay.

as for the cars...gotta stay chevy.

So re-enacting the bullitt chase scene is out of the question? All great ideas, keep 'em coming. The mustang is the same price as an impala for a week. Only $200! I just thought the mustang would be a better cruiser for the PCH. I've never driven one though so I don't know. The Impala I'm sure would ride much nicer/softer. The mustang though would take the curves better, no? I wanted the convertible but then they're up to $400/wk. No way I'm paying $600/wk for the vette

Cal Poly San Luis Obispo (15 min. north of Pismo) has a farmer's market on Thursdays. They roll up the streets, and roll out the food and fun...bar-b-q ribs and tri-tips, fresh produce, and lots of fun including bands and beer the like. It's a good time.

guy i'm working with down here got a V6 mustang for his rental, it's not a bad car for what it is. i haven't driven it at night, so i can't say for the headlights, but the 4.0L V6 is a peppy little bugger, plus there's a traction control switch i love rental cars. i got stuck with a fusion though you'd definitely have more fun driving the stang than the impala though, 2 door RWD beats 4 door FWD anyday in my book.

Gotta try Splash Cafe's clam chowder sourdough bowl , they are located a block from the pier in downtown Pismo. If your girl likes shopping there is lots to look at in San Luis's downtown, as well as Santa Barbara on State Street. If you happen to be on the 101 between Paso Robles and Salinas there is a town called Soledad, if you are hungry for mexican you must stop here. There is a somewhat large (for the area) shopping center with a Foods Co, I belive, and the mexican restaurant is called "Mariscos Puerto Nuevo", it is right next to the "Subway". You have to get something there, it's too good to pass up.

If I can think of anything else, I'll post up tomorrow morning. There is a Italian restaurant in Santa Barbara that is Awesome, but the name escapes me right now. Have a good vacation.

Oh yeah, if the rental place has one, Go for a G8 GT! That'll be nice for cruising on your trip, and will handle great on the windy roads along the coast.

Get the impala, I know it'll handle better and is more comfy then the mustang. You ever been to Disneyland if not I'd stop there for a day, big trees national park, Yosemite national park or San Fransisco. Hollywood is cool too.
