Default Will this tire fit?

I have a 2005 Tahoe Z-71 and I'm getting ready to replace the stock Goodyears. Currently I have 265/70-17 and I want a bigger tire. I was wondering if the BFG All-Terrain TA 285/70-17 will fit on my stock rims? The guy at Discount tire told me that he couldn't put them on because I have 17" x 7" rims and they wouldn't fit. I called the dealership and they said the rims were 17" x 7.5" rims plus it's stamped on the back of the rim. From what I've read the 285's will go on the 7.5 rims. Does anyone have any input on my issue? Thanks.

your tire will mount up with no problems, its just a little tougher to mount, the only fitment problems you might have is rubbing up front unless its lifted, otherwise if its stock those wont fit without cranking the torsion bars which I wouldnt advise it

Why would you advise against raising the torsion bars? Sorry for being a 4x4 noob.

Not really sure why he would. As long as you don't go too crazy with it(2" or less) you'll be fine. There have been tons of people who crank with no problems.

I wouldn't recommend it if you're running some serious horsepower(500+)

Yes, they will fit just tire people trying to cover their asses. You will have rubbing issues with that wide a tire. Just keep an eye out for cupping and maybe get an alignment done after.

My plan is to raise the front up and get it aligned when the tires get put on. Will the rubbing be bad or only a little?

Rubbing would be minimal if at all at stock height. You should be good to go.
