I’m also a huge fan of the CamMotion truck cams. Low lift with stock springs and slightly higher with a spring change. Great torque for a DD truck with extra up top as well. Too many guys over cam for street, especially on the 4.8 or even 5.3.

exactly on over caming them, ive got a friend that has a heavy crew cab and wants to put a 228/232 cam and he has a 4.8. i told him he will need a 4k stall for that lol i just upgraded from a btr stage 2 truck cam to a howards 218/224 .604 112lsa in my 6.0 and there is a ever so slight drop in lowend, of course i still need to retune for this cam but it feels just as strong. great daily driver. i cant wait to see what the power difference is from the btr stage 2

01FormulaTA, do you have any dyno numbers from that cam you mention? Info on what engine and truck setup? Thanks.

BlackPanther6.0, I agree completely. Valve train can only take so much. I pull a large boat and an enclosed trailer at times for hours at a time. Stop every 3 hours for fuel type trips. OE has done the testing for longevity. You start going crazy on lift and duration and the valve guides start getting elongated and it starts using oil. Or you start having troubles with rocker arms breaking from fatigue.
I would like something that has gains from idle to 5500 that actually has legitimate gains down low, and I mean low, like 1500 range.

My truck is a '00 1500 6.0 lq4 ported heads, nnbs intake bolt ons. gains were probably from 3k and on up with the howards cam, coming from the btr stage 2. If you want off idle gains look at the cam motion cams, or even the btr stage 1 truck cam, what engine do you have? I want to get 2 more cams to see how they react. The cam gained 6 hp and 19 torque at peak, but the gains were seen everywhere else. I'm pleased with it.

I currently have an LQ4. I am looking at getting a LQ9 and want a small torque cam. Like I said towing in the 1800 to 2500 rpm range. Pulling a hill and it will drop gears and really be in the power, but I would like gains in the "low" ranges more than above 3k. My trailer is 24ft v-nose with 6k axles. Truck is rated for 10k towing capacity, but that is a stretch in stock form. I am getting parts together for a 87mm tb/intake setup, and I've already done some exhaust work. Headers are out, I'm getting too old for that stuff. I don't like the maintenance. Another reason for the small cam. Less stress on parts. I'd like to see 20-40 lb/ft increase at the lower levels.

For your goals, down low I would reccomend the stage 1 truck cam, gaining 30 to 40 in torque that low in the range might be a little hard with a cam swap, your best bet is to ask a reputable cam guru to spec you a cam for what you want. Contact cam motion they are very good and can guide you in the right direction with what you will need
