Tire question: P sized vs. LT sized
#1
I'm about to buy some 285/75-16s for my yukon. I have a Toyo connection so I want to use that. However, the "highway" Toyo Open Country HLs don't come in 285/75-16s -they do come in 265/75 and 275/70s.
The Open Country A/T comes in 285/75-16 but its an LT285 tire where my current tires are P265s. What difference will the LT make? It is a stiffer sidewall? I know the 285 is roughly an inch taller, but I wonder if the LT tire will be harsh?

The P stands for passenger, and the LT stands for light truck. I think the LT is a tad stiffer sidewall, but Im not 100% sure.

LT will be a little stiffer and sometimes have a higher max psi rating. They also have a higher load rating. You will be fine with with either probably won't notice much of a ride difference between a P and an LT tire.
