Default Solid axle swap from ORD...

I have a front axle and i'm ready to do a solid axle swap on my 2001 z-71 silverado. I found this leaf spring conversion kit from off road direct. Has anyone ever used this or know anyone who has? How well does it work?

Here is a link to the product

And here is the instructions

Continue researching. You are unprepared for a solid front axle conversion if you're asking questions such as those. Head on over to Pirate4x4.com.

wow they make it look easy, I would agree with going to pirate4x4, lots of good info on there, but have a good welder ready, be prepared to spend probably atleast an hour just getting all of your measurements correct so that your truck drives straight before you weld, and then the brake lines, shocks, driveshaft for however tall you want your truck.

also I wouldnt go through that much trouble unless you were going with a 1 ton dana 60 or a built 44, otherwise its not that much stronger than the ifs and you dont have as much ground clearance. then if your staying with a 1/2 ton axle I would also invest in gussets to help with the strength. all in all its a pretty $$ project that can be very worth while if you are a hardcore off roader but if you just hit a mud pit everynow and then id leave it - good luck

dumb question, can you run AWD with a SAS? just wondering if it would wear it out or if it could handle it.

yea, just leave the front hubs unlocked. Then really all you you are doing is turning the front end, not applying power to the front tires. Then if you need it lock it in at the hubs and ur good to go!

AWD with a SFA suspension lift is sad waste of rear wheel horsepower. Not to mention the unneeded wear and tear on the transfercase and front drivetrain until the hubs. It's an idea far worse than Mopar's unit bearing hub design in their front axles, and they've left me without tires on the highway!
