Default Recovery Hooks

Has anyone ever had one or both of the recovery hooks on the front of the truck break off. Well mine did they did not bend at all they just snapped. Does anyone know where I can get some that are stronger than the original ones. Thanks.

Just wondering. What were you pulling and what were you pulling it with (chain, strap, rope) when they broke?

We broke some off a buddies truck, they just snapped too, they are POS cast hooks. He ended up getting some 3/8 steel plate and welding it to the frame where the hooks were and then put a shackle in each. Also use a strap not a chain or cable to pull out, its easier on the drivetrain and you pull point.

Were you pulling straight or at an angle?

I've seen a few trucks with Billet tow hooks. Not sure where they got them though. I'm sure if you shop around you can find some.

At the lake i saw a pair of tow hooks snap when a truck was pulling out another truck with a boat attached that got stuck in the mud. It was crazy!

I got stuck in the sand and i was being pulled out. It was being pulled straight and we were using a chain. I have never used a chain I have always used a strap when I go in the mud to pull someone or to get pulled out. But I did not have one and the guy that pulled me out only had a chain. And at the time I did not care I just wanted to get out.

I hate tow hooks anyway, IMO you should do what my buddy did. The shackle is nice when you have to keep jerking on someone because you dont have to wrry about the strap falling off the hook. I will be doing that soon to my truck, Im not going to wait for the POS's to break.

Lol. Yeah im not sure what I am going to do yet. I have been looking at the tow hooks off of an 07. I think they are enclosed not hook style. I am going to see if they will bolt up or if i can make them fit. Lol.

My tow hook held up pretty good yesterday, though the pulls spilled my coke and made the CD skip http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y2gt11Wvxvg

Nice vid. Ya thoughs hooks suck ***. Iv brook mine off as well, using a strap pulling straight. If you go to fullsizechevy.com in the off road dept and search for tow hooks they have a few differant ways people have done it. I will mostlikley be going with 2 shackels up front my self.
