Default off road help

So i was set with a 2" lowering kit, and 24" rims.. until i spent the weekend at hollister finding out exactly what this z71 could do....

So i decided to go off road with it... i bought some pro comp black 17x8 rims, and i want to get either a 33 or 35 inch tire... how much lift do i need? will new torque keys work? how does that work? can i get a cheap 3 inch body lift to help with even bigger tires?

basically i am new to the lift and off road world and looking for help... i was told stock you couldnt fit more than 32"...

anyone have any pics of tires on a 17x8?

thanks for any help

you could fit 33 with just using ford keys or just a body lift and some mild trimming, if you want 35's you should use the ford keys and the body lift, the setup I plan on running soon

ya 3" BL and ford keys with an add-a-leaf will def get you 35s. thats what i ran in these pictures only the tires where 33s, clearly lots of clearance

Looks like you have plenty of clearance to run 35's with that set-up beastmode, But I cant imagine that would a very good "off-roading set-up" and I think it might be a little too much strain on some of the factory parts.

IMO you need to go with a real suspention lift kit. Either CST or Fabtech. I really like the CST kit, but there is no one around here that carries and installs them so I went with the Fabtech kit. Fabtech has been around longer and it is probably the highest quality kit. The CST kit has an option so you can go up to 8" with it. Go with an actual lift kit and if you want a few more inches after that get a body lift.

My plans are to get a 3" BL and run some 37's soon...

Dont forget you will probably end up wanting to re-gear your truck too and that will cost about 2K. Also, a 10" wheel will look a lot better on a lifted truck..

On my stock 05 I have 17X8.5 wheels with 285's, which calculates to 32.8 inches. With the tires and the inch wider wheels they do not rub anywhere at any time, jumping it or not. If you cant get 35's under a 3 inch body lift then you need to change your wheel width and offset.

The CST is a much better kit than the Fabtech, however, Cognito Motorsports > CST IMO. With the CST you can crank it to 8", but you'd have bad cv angles, which is what the user would likely want to avoid. I don't really care for the Fabtech due to its front track width increase.

See, I actually LIKED that feature because IMO it made it look more like the HD trucks....I wouldnt say that CST is better than Fabtech though, I really like my kit and Fabtech has been doing this stuff for quite a while, JMO though...
