Default Why is there a vent Between my cab and the bed? Installing sound absorbing material.

Hey, recently I've been thinking that the road noise level in my truck is somewhat unacceptable so I ordered 80 sq ft of edead e80.

After I gutted my truck I found out that there is a "vent" between my truck cab and the truck bed! I'm sure that's where a ton of the sound is coming from. This vent is a plastic piece that has little rubber covers. Is there any purpose for this piece? Can I just get a small piece of sheet metal, take out this pointless vent and then rivet it in place? I will then cover it with sound absorbing material which i think will cut down the sound dramatically.

If anyone knows what this thing is for, and if I shouldn't rivet some metal where the whole is Please let me know

Thanks!
Phil

ps. I will post pics after I'm done with the sound absorbing material! I should be recieving it tomorrow and I've already prepped almost all the surfaces so i should be done before the weekend.

well every time you slam your door shut, you would pop out a window... among other things im sure, it releases cabin pressure.

They are there for a reason, and even if you do cover them, it wont do you much good. Been there done that, now I have the uncovered again.

My dad had some stuff behind the seat of his rc and when he closed the door the back window exploded. I would not remove them unless you want to go with a lexan rear window and find another way to vent it.

As long as you remembered to open a window before you shut your door every time you would be ok. But if it doesn't do much good, don't do it anyways.

Great thread!
I've always wondered myself and that makes perfect sense.

It does still help to crack the opposite window when shutting a door. makes it shut a bit easier.

If you have an extended cab, the rear windows will flex out some so I doubt you would break glass with that. At speed, the rear windows will flex out from the pressure coming through the vents, causing some pretty bad wind noise. Also AC blower performance sucks because the blower has to build pressure now, which is not easy.
