what's this amp worth?

When did we start talking about loudness? There is a multitude of ways to aim a box, each way dependent on vehicle and placement. The only point I'm trying to get across is that sound waves don't 'develop'.
If you put a sub with the same box, same tuning, same power, it will play the same loudness. IMAGING and CANCELLATION come into play though! That's why aiming a box front or back makes it sound different when your sitting in the drivers seat. Not because "develop more". Once they've played, they've played and that's it.
Downfiring is a a SQ system. You'll never break SPL records in a downfiring box, but that is besides the point.
And when you downfire a box...it still utilizes cabin gain. Downfiring the box doesn't make the waves go away. The carpet doesn't suck in the sound waves and hold it there. It reflects differently, which in turn effects the sound, loudness and everything else.
So in conclusion: waves don't "develop". I'm going to stop arguing with you because you are wrong. The reason for varying results is because different box positioning causes cancellation and imaging issues. People blame the imaging problems on developing bass waves because they don't know any better.

well i understand what you are saying, guess we where tought two diff. approaches to the problem and neither one of us is going to let the other one tell them how its suppose to be.....
It is clear that we can not decide this battle by knowledge of car audio, but by our skills with a light saber.

Your the guy that flip flopped on the issue. You went from saying it wouldn't sound "good" to it being not as loud. You can't argue with HT setups that sound 10x, all utilizing downfiring boxes.

any news on the fi's? i am building a fiberglass box, should have it done on saturday and i am waiting on you to see if the fi's will be residing in it.....let me know how they sound!!!!

my fiberglass box is sealed bc i didnt want to mess with any port length issues, i have type R's right now but i am always open to change if the evidence is convincing....good news is i think the type R's and the fi's are similar in sealed air space so i will prolly just run the type R's untile i hear from you then i can switch to the fi's....

Your running the type r's sealed? Type R's are def. not good for a sealed box, man.
Search google for winISD. It's a subwoofer modelling program that is free, it will tell you your roll offs, low freqs, give you your ideal box size and port size/length and rough estimates on SPL levels.
What's the airspace in your box? Going off what winISD recommends, the cut off freq for two type r's is 47 Hz! The subs can't be getting very low. If you'll tell me how big your box is, I'd gladly get you a port size/length.
Your making me cry running them sealed!

ooooooorrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr you could just go to alpines web site and make the sealed box exactly to their specs.....since they are the ones who made the sub i asume they know a little about the correct airspace for them......dont cry, lookin to break 40's when the box is done

Sure, you can run them sealed and they will work, but not well, and you can get better sound, lower notes and more spl out of them ported. If you would stop arguing with everything I say and actually listen once you might learn something.
Did you know that most sub companies make sealed box recommendations smaller then what they should be so they can say it handles more power? Or that you can deviate +/- 20% on sealed box dimensions and have no audible difference?

yes, i am not new to the car audio buisness, i know the different things companies do to make their product seem better than it is.....but hitting 136db with a sealed downfiring box and still have amazing sq bc its sealed, you cant argue with results like that.....and with a fiberglass box with the subs facing up i should get into the 140db range hopefully....and still have sq to boot, thats why i prefer sealed, bc i listen to rock about 95% of the time i need my bass to hit hard and not be muddy on double bass like a ported box would be. its just what i prefer thats all....
