I've never heard the Orion's, so I can't help you there.

But you have to decide what you want. SPL, SQ? The SSD's get reasonably loud, and sounds pretty good while doing it. They are like a louder Type X apparently.

If you can fit 12" Orions, you can probably fit 12" Fi's. Same power requirements, just a little bigger mounting depth(and 12") The airspace wouldn't be that much either.

HOw big is the box you have/are going to make/or have made?

I don't know when I can get a fuse, so it could be the middle of next week till it gets running. The box is in and everything though. Ill take pictures in a bit.

 

the fi's are probably better than the orions but the orions will do just fine for most people as far as how loud they get(i know that the SSS is a "better" truck than my rcsb but it suits me just fine).....just like anything else you get what you pay for.....

 

Agreed. I just got the Fi's because I was sick of department store stuff. Only thing I'll ever purchase from BB/CC is head units.

i added dayton high output 12's to the list. I think ill remove the HCCA's. If i want good 10's, I'll go for gold with the Fi's. My box has 6.25" mounting depth avail so no Fi 12's. My system isnt going to be THAT great since I'll be keeping the stock bose stuff for a while...maybe i should just save some $$$. Anyone hear the daytons? i wonder how they compare to the orions. I'm wondering if i should go with the extra 400 watts since my amp can provide it.

 

Dayton from www.partsexpress.com is a very good option as well. Very good subs.

Do you have a router? It wouldn't be all that difficult to route out 3/8's of an inch from the bottom of the box. How much space is between the sub and whatevers in front of it? Could you make a spacer?

 

they are downfiring underneath the rear bench (ext cab). making a spacer would mean less room for the subs to flex out when they hit so it all depends on how much they need for that. I was considering that option though. I could just buy the MDF speaker ring used for fiberglass boxes and use that as a spacer...but man...those Fi 12's are even more expensive.... i wish money grew on trees

 

The 12's are only about 10 bucks more IIRC. Same internals, and it's going to get louder than 10s. How much room do you have between sub and floor?

 

the xmax on the Fi's is 21 mm, P2P. So 10.5 one way, which is about .4 inches. So if you stick 1/2 inch between sub and floor, you should be good to go.

 

it doesnt only matter that the sub wont hit the floor it also matters that there is enough room for the sound waves to develope or else they will hit the floor and bounce back up to the sub making it a little distorted, just remember that as well......
