Default What would cause my amp to cut out??

Here's a list of what i have:

Pioneer DEH P 8MP H.U.
Diamond D6 Components in the doors
Stock Rear speakers
Kicker comp vr 10" with Dual voice coil
Kicker KX 700.5 amp

2 channels are bridged to each front crossover, and the sub channel is of course going to the sub.

I have the voice coils wired parallel on the sub.

My problem is that i can only turn up the volume 3/4 of the way for a limited amount of time, anymore and the music will cut out for a few seconds then come back on (it will keep doing that periodically until you turn it down).

**I just realized after writing this that all the music shuts off for a few seconds, if it was the amp the rear speakers should still be playing since they're not powered by the amp. Could this be a problem with my head unit???

Any ideas or help is greatly appreciated!!

What is the impedance on the voice coils of the subwoofer? If they are 2ohm coils then you are running the amp at 1ohm, which will cause it to overheat when it gets working hard.

If I turn my up to loud it just shuts the amp off to protect it but it does not come back on I have to cut my truck of and then back on.

99LoweredSierra, you could possibly have the problem that i described above, too low of resistance for your amplifier.

it may be 2 ohm ( i was thinking it was 4 though). what can i do to fix it? can i wire up the voice coils differently to change it?

First Look At The Spec Card Of The Amp... And How Good Is The Airflo By The Amp? If You Get It Right Againgst A Seatback Or Something Could Cause It To Overheat... But Im Betting Maybe Your Amp Is Only 4 Ohm Stable... Which Means It Will Run At 2 Ohm Bridged.... But One It Starts Pumpin.... It Gives Up

I Just Read The Specs On The Amp... And It Said The Sub Channel Is Only 4 Ohm Stable.

Just Wire Up One Of The Voice Coils And You Will Be Fine
