Well I'm over my system and I'm trying to reinstall a stock headunit but I tried to use one off my work truck but it doesn't work. Someone told me that if I get a stock radio that I would need the dealer to program it for my truck-is this true?

I have installed 2 stock head units from different vehicles in my truck and never had to have them reprogramed or anything. the only thing i did have to do on one of them is unlock it but i did not have the code so i brought it to the dealer and they screwed me out of $100 to look on some gm web site to get the code and type it in to unlock it. hope this helps.

yes they where both from the same year 2006 from and SS silverado, the 6 disk one.

 

I installed a 2006 denali nav radio into a 2007 silverado classic and had to have the stealer program the radio. IIRC the screen had "LOCKED" on it.
