Default Stock stereo question

Will a 6 disc in dash stock stereo work in a truck that currently only has the single cd/cassette?

The cd player in the truck ate a cd and now doesn't work at all plus the volume won't turn up on the deck either now..

Edit: I guess some info would help. Truck is a 2005 Silverado with steering wheel controls and looking to put in similar year, just with a 6 disc.

It will work...install it..then take to a gm dealer to program it to your truck.
