Default Question on wiring an amp

I just installed my system, and dummy me left my voltmeter at work. Im having problem getting the power to come on. There is no on or off switch, already looked, lol. Im wondering if its because the places i have the power and ground hooked up to. This is an 04 silverado btw. The power is at the small red box near the altenator. Then, i removed the plastic cover behind the seat to mount the speaker box down lower. I went to the jack, where the 2 studs come up for the ground. I scraped all the paint away, but I feel uneasy about it. where does everyone here get the power and ground from? Thanks in advance, Sean

Try rehooking your power to the positive on your battery terminal. Run your ground on the door jamb. Pull the plastic piece off the door sill and put it there. Wire stays hidden, I've stuck 1/0 under there!!

Theres a metal piece of the body, drill a hole and use a metal screw with washers. Grind the paint off as well. Then when your sure it works, spray it with some black paint so it doesn't rust.

Also, i have side post terminals and seem to be having trouble hooking the lead to the terminal, any tips for that?

is this an aftermarket amp? you should have a 3rd wire called a Remote wire that hooks to the radio. it's like an on switch. once it receives a power feed from that line it comes on.
