Default Looking at subs

I've been looking at subwoofers lately for my truck (2004 Silvy Ext Cab). I want to do a sealed box under the back seat, down firing. I think I just want one speaker, undecided on 10" or 12", and proper amp for configuration. Anyone have a similar setup? I haven't had subs in a long time, and have no idea what I'm looking at anymore!!! Any input will be appreciated. I'm not looking to win a competition, just want a little more punch, and clean sounding system. I do not plan to run vocals through the sub, just bass. What amp/sub combination has worked for y'all? I will also be upgrading my factory truck speakers over the summer, along with a head unit. Damn, there are so many options out there.

I got my setup from hifi sound connection. It's a single Kicker CVT 12" 400W in a sealed downfire box with a refurbed Kicker 500W amp. Came out to $300 shipped after I haggled them a bit. It's been going strong for a couple years now. I love it, is plenty loud for my tastes, nice deep and clean tone. I am by no means a stereo guy, I just wanted some bass!

Digital designs make great subs as well as mids/highs. I haven't tried any of their amps, but if they are as good as their speakers you won't be sorry. I'm not sure if they have a retail store, but I know they are based in OKC.

Yeah, they have a store. I called it the other day at about 11am....rang, rang, and rang. Then an answering machine. I'll probably go by there in a couple of days. I've responded to a couple of calls near their business. They were always pretty friendly.

gamble listed a very good sub with the hds310, also Digital design makes very good subs, couple other options i would suggest looking into would be sundown sa10 or sa12, skar audio vvx 10 or 12. Ferocitys input on kicker isnt bad either, i personal am not a fan of kicker but know plenty of people that run them all the time.

What are your thoughts on sundown audio? I'm considering their SAE1000D amp. I'm wanting to run a single 10" sub in my truck. I think dual 10's is to much for what I want. Do you agree or disagree? I'm just looking for clean deep hits. I've read that I should get an amp that is overpowered for what I want because it is less likely to distort when it gets cranked up. I'm open to suggestions for amps and subs. Don't want to go over $300 a piece though. As far as a box boes, I want a downfiring, under rear seat. Im in OKC, and Digital Designs is local. I've talked to a dealer and they suggested a single 10" on an M80 amp. He told me he could do it for around 500-600 total.
What are your suggestions for factory replacement speakers? I've looked at Kenwood, and Kicker. Both would be better than what I have know. The guy at Digital Designs said they could do that to if I wanted, but that it would be another 500-600. That included a single din stereo, replacement speakers, and labor. Anyways, let me know what you think. Then I will have more questions.

well sundown is very good product and i do agree if you only want one, then a 10 is the way to go for under the seat. it might be hard to get enough air space for a single 12. also i would do a ported enclosure not a sealed one. i would run the sa-10 with the sae1000d. the amp is alittle big but if this box and everything is tuned right, which any shop should be able to do for you, then it will work just fine.

Also digital design is another very good brand, have had many friends use it. only thing about DD is it is pretty pricey.

for replacement door speakers i wouldnt run anything but rockford. im bout to redo my whole system and i will be running all rockford speakers.

and for head unit, i really like pioneer but there are so many different good single din head units out there.
Thanks for the information. Are there any other subs out there worth considering? I like the sound qubed also in a 10", but I think the mounting depth would be a problem.
sound qubed are great subs also, the hds200 should fit just fine.( dont quite remember the height of the seat though). im running skar audio subs right now, the vvx-10 would be a nice sub(im running 2 8's). the DC level 2 10" is another great option. PSI audio has some nice level 1 10s also.
Great, I'll look into them. OKC, just doesnt have that many options when it comes to stereo stores. One guy I talked to was trying to push the JL W1V3 on me pretty hard. Unfortunately no one deals skar audio in oklahoma. One store does/did deal dc audio. Cool, thanks again. So, should I do subs and amp first or deal with factory speakers and head unit? Does it really matter?
well even if there are no dealers for some of these brands you could always order them offline, if you wanted. but if i was you i would do head unit and speakers first. then get an amp and sub, with a custom ported enclosure made to fit under the seat.
Thanks for all the information, I appreciate it. Do you care if I copy our whole conversation and paste it into my original thread? Not that anyone will care, but someone may do a random search sometime.
thats fine with me
