Looking at subs
#21
personally, i like memphis subs. the pr's are the best subs for the money when you want some clean bass without spending an arm and a leg. they also have great customer service, as well as don't require obnoxious amounts of air space. you could easily run 2 of their 10s and have probably more than you expected.
as far as sound quality and and the life span of the subs you will need a amp with the same ohm load as the sub or if you run more than one it has to match the ohm load for the configuration you run.
im not an expert but I do have a pretty decent knowledge of how to run setups because I was an installer for a little bit.

So I got on SSA Audio Forum. Everyone there, well everyone that posted on my thread...told me there is no reason to run 8's. They said 10's will work just fine, as will a single 12. Anyone want to chime in on that???

okay so more bass is produced by cone area.
12" sub has area of 113.1"
10" sub has area of 78.54"
and 2 8"s has area of 100.54
so normally speaking the 12 would has the most cone area so it would be better, but now you have to get into air space.
One of the prefabbed boxes that i found online (Ground Shaker NCHV 2 12 12" Dual GMC and Chevy Sub Enclosure) holds 2 12s. each has its own chamber and has .875cubic feet. which now means you have to find 12s that are optimal in that much air space. or you could get the same box but with 10s instead of 12s and still have .875 air space.

yes it does. most subs will list its space it takes up. if you're looking at going with a sealed box there is plenty of room for error too. in that small of a space i would go with a pair of 8s or a 10. i absolutely hate how a sub sounds in too small of a box.

Well some dude on ssa audio forum thinks I'm a complete idiot for only wanting a pair of 8's, more specifically digital design 8's. He suggests a single 12, and to stay away from DD. Anyone think I should run a single 12? I'm just concerned that the mounting depth will hinder me on speaker selection. A pair of 10's would be better in the depth area, than a single 12. That's what I think at least. Am I wrong? No, I'm not lifting my rear seat.

as far as which sub setup you choose, its simple. what kind of bass do you want?
typically a 12 will hit a lot of lows and a lot of highs. the bigger the sub the bigger the range of low bass that it will provide. I like 12s because its a good range if you want both high and low. 10s will hit higher bass better. you will have no issue with air space if you use two 10s or a single 12 especially, given that you don't get any ridiculous and expensive subs that have a massive magnet. if your looking for a basic clean system, a single 12 or two 10s is fine with that much space. a single 12 could potentially use less space as far as how much room the box will take up as it doesn't need to go all the way across to get optimum air space for the sub.
I agree with what he said above me, get a custom made box for whichever sub you decide on.
I also agree that if your thinking of going two 10s it would be kind of a waste to even consider 8s, but again that is my opinion and to each their own. I wont knock it.
feel free to pm me if you have any other questions I can help you with, and I will give it to you straight and simple(not to insult your intelligence).
