i tried two different wires but still couldnt get them(aftermarket gauges) to dim so i said screw it. i only had one that i could dim anyways my others are LED-lit and it was a autometer ultra-lite with the incadescent bulb in it and its not too bright. but i never use the dimmer on my dash lights anyways.

i know for sure that on a 01 its NOT the purple wire behind the headlight switch

Have been looking a wiring diagrams for mine tonight for lighting up my switch panel. I am going to tap into the i/p relay center by your left foot. I have a 2004 and I know they changed that panel, I think in 2003, so these places should work.

C10 pin F is a dimming wire for incandesent lights(not LED's)- should be a brown wire with a white stripe. It is the big connector on the left looking at that panel. Second row from the left at the top.
C5 pin f is also a dimming connection- Mine has nothing there, so might tap in there if I can get the connector.

I tested C10 and it dims my panel.

If its an LED its in a different location.

Hope it helps.

On an 01 there is a fuse in the drivers side dash fuse panel that says Illum. You can add a little fuse and Piggy back off it.

Wait maybe I used hat one to activate my Dakota Digital auto dim. Give it a test with a voltage meter. I can't remember.
