Hey everyone....just wondering what alt i have? its a 99 gmc sierra with the 5.3L the dealers are saying i have the 105amp alt and i can get an optional 130amp alt that will bolt right on? does this sound right?

 

yes you have a 105 amp. Why not just swap it out for a 145 amp alternator?

 

sure but why do u need a bigger one..if you not going to put in a system or anything that will need more power it would be a waste IMO

 

I already have a system in the truck and my alt is rdy to crap out at anytime it has a hard time holding volts when the system it cranked....Where is this 145amp alt from??? denalis?

 

I picked up my 145 from a boneyard - it was out of a '02 Suburban. One thing to note is that the factory 145 has a larger case - it'll bolt right up but you'll need a longer belt to go with it.

You also need to do the Big-3 wiring upgrade, if you haven't already.

 

just ask for the same year truck as yours but say that you have a 2500 with a 6.0 and not a 1500 with a 5.3.

It's too easy to confuse the guys at the auto parts places

but yea if you want a 130 ask for like a 02 tahoe.. if you want a 145 ask for a esky or 2500 truck or a quadsteer truck.

 

And i would just get the belt for a suburban if i were to do this?

 

yea there is a longer belt for the bigger alt because the case if bigger so the pulley is placed up high when mounted compared to the smaller alts
