What is the explanation of the 40A/30A on this solenoid please?

Well in my search I laneded up on a Hella pdf document and seen specs like these.

40A @12V, 30A @24V

Bumping an old post for the info-

The 40A is the maximum surge (less than 1 second) and the 30A is the rated load at 12v. Think of kicking on a fan motor or something with a hefty starting load.

I would not trust that rating for cheap Chinese relays though, think more along the lines of a 30A surge rating and a 25A continuous load. The contactors are very shoddy material and generate a lot more heat than a quality Hella or Bosch relay.
