Something happened about an hour ago when I tried to get past a jackass that was being a dick to not let me get into a turning lane. This ******* was trying to pass me using the right lane with music blasting so loud, it sounded like crap! I could hear that crap over my exhaust (and my exhaust is noticeable).
Let's just say there was a slight slip after flooring the go pedal in 2nd gear @ 20mph. PCM told trans to engage 1st gear... heard too long of a constant high engine rev, and then 1st gear caught so hard that it jolted the truck forward (as if I was rear-ended), then free rev'd with shifter in the "D" position.
After a couple of seconds of the "WTF" look on my face, I down-shifted manually to 2nd, and proceeded to move forward.
Puzzled, I came to a stop light, shifted back in the "D" position, and free rev'd again. Long story short, I was about 10 miles from home, and manually shifted from 2nd, then to 3rd, and finally to 4th from a number of traffic lights to get the truck home. Now, I'm trying to think of what could possibly have bit the dust to cause 1st not to engage. Any ideas?
*edit* BTW, I'm thinking the two washers from the HD2 kit was a bit too much. With that said, can anyone guess what broke?

I'm going to take a wild guess and say that you ripped the part on the rear planet that splines to the low roller race off. I did get a chance to watch the video with sound and it sounds like you get a pretty good chirp in second. Good luck. Vince

I'll pull it sometime next week, and see what's up. This'll be a more in-depth repair than the recent one. Ah... getting more experience with these than I "care" to have.

This was a stock GM tranny when I got it. I'm thankful to get 2500 miles out of it in stock form. However, I'm hearing too many bad things about PTC TCs having trouble. Wondering if my PTC3K is the reason why I'm finding shavings and other material causing my fluids to become soiled. It's been that way since I got it. I'd hate to think that I got a "used" TC from the beginning.
Here's what I've found today:

New trans jack

Damn h-pipe setup is more of a pain than anything. Have to tilt trans to get out.

This is what I've "ALWAYS" found in the trans from day one.

This is definitely something new. But... there's no evidence as to where it came from.

Closer shot of the alien piece of whatever.

Retainers are a bitch if you don't know "how" to get them out. Luckily, I knew how.

Closer shot of the low roller clutch retainer.

Pics of the low & reverse clutch assembly. Nothing abnormal about them.

Here's a pic of the infamous sun gear/shell that everyone replaces with the "Beast" version.

Last piston assembly to remove... nothing special here.

After finding nothing out of the ordinary, everything went back together. Mind you, no "special" tools required, but I'll say that "picks" will make life a bit easier. You can "make do" with a small flat-head screwdriver if you're desperate.
The valve body looked normal. I'm still wondering about that little chunk of metal though. Don't have any clue as to where it came from. As for the converter, there may be some issue there. I didn't want to get p/o'd before, but I wondered if that SOB was used before.
Now... in regards to first gear not engaging, I'm wondering about that piece of metal being present in the bottom of the trans. Could that have possibly blocked a valve, thus inhibiting flow along a part of the valve body? Not sure where this could've been before I found it.

Believe me... I have thoughts about some things. Don't get me started, Ross. I've had some "get-right" juice, and am liable to act like a you-know-what.
the only good thing about my trials is narrowing down the suspects. This PTC POS is the next hombre on the list.
