This fuking truck is pissing me off, if it wasnt for the great tranny, It would be swapped, or burned. Went to Gulf Shores Wed till Sun, right outside of BR, I got behind a Toureg V8 (nice SUV BTW) we rolled about 87 till he got comfortable with me behind him then we kicked it up to 90-95 we ran up to about 105-110 once, and when I slowed down, I noticed a high pitched whine that seems like its coming from the front. I was having some issues with my 4wd light on the dash coming on then going off a little while later, but this didnt seem to be the issue. Nothing vibrates or anything, just another agrivating whine (in addition to my engine wanting a S/C so bad it makes supercharger sounds much like a kid making race car sounds)
Anyway this morning I leave to come to work, when I get to the end of the street, my ABS pulses, then about 1/4 mile down the road, my ABS, and brake light come on and my speedo goes crazy (almost like the VSS is bad) when I slow down a little the speedo starts working and the brake light goes off. I dealt with this BS back and forth for a couple of miles then it straightened up. I had some issues with teh VSS connector a while back, so I cut the jumper and butt spliced it back, Im gonna check that later maybe the connection is bad (if so Ill soler and heat shrink if I can get in there)
Anyway, if anyone has any idea what the hell is going on post up. Randy (litredevil) said the whine may be the front pinion bearing, but just fishing for more ideas.

my front passenger wheel used to do that. it was a low pitch whistle that would come and go depending on the speed. i was guna replace my passenger side hub but when summer came around it went away. you cant repack the bearings on these trucks. you gotta replace the entire hub

Hey matt, could it be your rear end. Did you get the G80 in or are you still Front wheel driving it?

I agree w/ Randy, sounds like a bearing. Does it make the whine all the time? If you drop down a gear, does it get louder?? I had a similar problem w/ my Z71, it was the rear bearings whinning.

The G80 is fixed. It sounds like its coming from the front. I was planning on pulling the front driveshaft and seeing if that narrows it down any. It seams worse when coasting then when driving wich is why I think its gear related, but dont know enough about them to narrow it down to a bearing etc. I guess that does make a lot of sence though since it was fine, went fast, then started. I need to check the front diff fluid too I guess.
Also was wondering also if it could be a slipped belt on a tire, but I let someone borrow my Buckshots, so I cant just swap them and see, however it doesnt have any other characteristics of a slipped belt.

no. The pinion angle can only be corrected by rotating the axle on the springs using angled shims. I'm not sure at what point they will be needed though. If you've got noise, you should check into the shims and if they are needed.
