Default Is a MBA worth it?

I have been thinking about going back to school for a couple of years now, my GF finally gave me nudge. I am looking at TCU, which is ranked #11 in the nation's business schools by the Wall Street Journal. I have a degree in Computer Science and a minor in Electrical Engineering/Mathmatics, but I work in the Finance world as a Developer/Cost Analyst, previously I worked in Software Engineering. I have 5 years experience at a Large Defense Contractor, so I think the MBA will benefit me. My work will pay for roughly 30k of the cost but I have to pay ~21k..... It would take ~33 months to complete going year round 2 nights a week, plus study sessions. So would 21k be worth it for a MBA from a top private school? Looking for advice from guys that have a MBA or know of people how have one...

Thanks

If the increased level of education nets you more cash per year, then why not do it?

I only take salary surveys with a grain of salt as in my experience they have not been very close. Will you only make $10,000 more with an MBA? Very unlikely. I do know that my sister and one of my friend's sister is in the process of getting one and it is immediately worth WELL over $10,000 as soon as they get it plus very likely advancement possibilities of over $100,000. This obviously isn't the same for everybody but it is been my experience with it...

Tell you what I've been told - engineering background with an MBA is worth it's weight in gold. My bachelor's was in Industrial Engineering and I'm currently in my second year of my MBA program. I've already been guaranteed a job with a project management firm, and I haven't even started interviewing yet. I'm looking at probably doubling my salary once I graduate....food for thought. The investment is well worth it if you have the time.

Thunder, Thiems, Thanks for the advice, what yall have said is pretty much what I have been told and seen form people at my work. The only draw back is that in most cases I will have to switch jobs/companies. The program is 33 months, so I will have roughly 8 years experience in my field by the time I graduate, so hopefully the pay increase will be well worth it. The pay increase is mainly what I am looking for cause I am looking at getting engaged some time soon.

An MBA is an extremely well looked upon asset. You won't have problems finding a job with one. If you use your MBA like you should, it will easily be WELL worth your time in the long run to help fulfill your career/financial goals. You will obviously be out money in the short term but education is the best investment you can make as no one can take it away from you. IMO, it will definitely be worth your while. How many people have you heard say that they wish they hadn't gotten their MBA?

It seems like an MBA is the only way to go for business majors. Or go into law?
