damn, i got a letter in the mail that said to bring it in for recall work. i'll have to dig that up to see exactly what it said.
both vehicles are 02 tb's with the 4.2L
the fan clutch on mine will sometimes come on at startup and stay on for a little while.
on hers, it stays on non stop.
from what i can see the easy thing to do is buy the new style fan clutch and stick it on but i think you need tech2 to reprogram it. if so, that shouldn't be hard to do, litreddevil has one.

ours is a 2002. All I could find (i am not a dealership) was only bullentins as well. I did find where they have new part numbers superceding the last one like 3 times on it. Ours went out too. It feels like teh f-ing trans is going. Rev's like a ***** but hardly goes anywhere. Turns out the rev'ing is really the fan being engaged when it's not supposed to.
Not sure about the tech 2 thing. I thought it was an actual fan malfunction issue.

i ordered a new fan clutch for mine. i kept reading on www.trailvoy.com that they needed to have the pcm updated....so to me that means tech 2 but i could be wrong.
