ok. tossed new pcm in. did the vats/crank relearn. Completed. Truck ran fine without a battery.(jumpers from a car to my truck). Decided to read the new ecu so i can flash my base os over it, and what do ya know.... my truck did the guage thing again. Thank god its just reading and not doing a flash... now im scared to even attempt a flash... what to do at this point...
Ok, so I figured it out. The O's you sent me can only do 2 bar enhancements and my original one could do 3 bar. I got it to show the OS finally. My original pcm wasn't bricked. I was able to bench flash that one as well with the backups I made... Theres something weird with my truck going on when I try to read/write via the obd2 port. The truck gauges go haywire and the truck power cycles( like turning the key of and back into the in position 6 seconds later. I can bench flash for now I guess lol but I think I just opened up a whole new can of worms. Thank is for everyone's help!! Much appreciated!
I've seen some really shitty chime adapters on 03-07 classics between non factory radios and the factory harness that even pulling the radio and radio amp fuses wouldn't allow reading or writing. I did a 03 yesterday that I had to pull the radio and unplug the chime adapter from the harness to read and write the PCM. You can check the purple wire on the ALDL and make sure something isn't tapped in to it.
I've never had an issue with a stock radio installed unless there was something tapped into the purple ALDL wire. And sometimes that is hidden under electrical tape wrap.
Thats the thing, it doesnt matter what fusses are pulled, something is dropping the voltage from 13 volts to less than 9 during a read/write procedure.. maybe i have a bad ground somewhere...
