Question Those who have painted the lower valence

How well does this hold up? I realize the prep makes a difference, but I'm just talking about surviving elements of the road. I'm in upstate NY where we get a decent amount of snow and was considering painting this piece to match the cover.

I just got a spray gun and thought this would be a good piece to start on as I can mess it up a little without it being a big deal. At the same time, I'm not sure if anyone in snow states has done it and actually have all the paint and clear hold up to all of the elements. Thoughts?

Thanks,
Andrew

Mine is painted, although it was made to be painted. I know mine holds up to sun and rain well. I don't know what this snow stuff you speak of is though.

Seriously though, like you said prep is the biggest part of it. Check out this link, the guy sanded, preped and painted his valance and used stuff out of a spray can. This is the best I have ever seen anything spray painted and it has some good info. http://www.gmfullsize.com/forum/show...ainted+valance

If you prep it and paint it right it will hold up fine. Mine has done great other than the chips from hanging it up on f#$kin curbs..

I've had the same experience as he has. Mine has held up for 3 yrs now and the Dakota I had held up for several yrs as well.

curbs and entrance ramps kick my ***!!! and, use adhesion promoter. If you like your truck to ride low.. expect to repaint it every so often. otherwise, you'll be fine.

Great, sounds like it's a go then. Thanks for the info guys. Sounds like I can put this up on the wall as my first part that I can try.

Thanks,
Andrew
