i had the same problem with my other truck its an 03 and i think its the bulbs i replaced them with hids 8 ks and i had them for 1 year now with no problems at all

 

If you want some bright bulbs without going HID, that are alot cheaper than silverstar, go to Advance and get them to look in the accesories catalog and order you some, the brand is Nokya. They are about $20 a pair. Ive had mine for a while now with no problems. It is also a good idea to put some dielectric grease in the connections. This is a pic of the Nokya's in my truck.

 

the nokyas is what i run in mine also. no problems so far but ive only had them about 2 months. the only thing ive noticed is they get so hot that theyve started causing the the plastic around the bulb to crack but its not noticable unless ur looking for it.

 

had a pair of silverstars in my 98 for 3 years no problems
the pair in my 01 have been in there over a year no issues

 

I run a better light wiring harness made by Kennedy Diesel. Called a Headlight Booster it's in their Truck Accessories section. I got mine several years ago when the price was better. Not cheap but not cheap built either.

I wanted this so I could safely run 100watt 9005's in my factory high beams without the heat generated by the pitiful OE wiring. Larger quality wire with big solenoids all loomed and looks factory it's practically plug and play. There is a plug-in diode built into the harness that converts to all 4 on high beam if you want it. I have had this same harness on the last three trucks I have had. I always remove it before trading. No way they get this from me.

I have been running the same Phillips 9006 51 watt low-beam lamps he sells for several years. When I traded the lamps came with me. In my high beams I run no-name JC Whitney 9005 100watt halogens. No fancy name or type or blue glass and bright as hell in the harness. For more than three years with no failures.

I used to run Hellas on my bumper and got tired of remounting them when trading and seen the harness. So I bit on it and WoW. All 14 volts to the lamps they shine their best.

All this 60watts that perform like 100watts is bull pudding!

 

With the price of HIDs so cheap now why not run HIDs? I mean Silverstars are like 50 or so, HIDs can be had for 75 from a vendor on here

 

I had the same problem with my bulbs for my suburban. I went to plug and play HID systems. They are incredibly bright and only use 35w per bulb. The only problem is that they take 3 or so seconds to heat up so switching to your brights can be a problem at times. I fixed that by using painless's hi4 kit.

 

never had any issue with my silverstars. ive heard more complaints on the 03-07 classics tho im not sure why. my trucks a 99.

 

With the Silverstars it seems they don't even make it a year. I lost two in one long trip. I love how bright they are so I can't complain about the lifespan. What do HID look like in comparison as far as brightness? I already **** off people with how bright the Silverstars are.

 

HIDs are the best thing in lighting IMO. If you want or need something brighter why not get some 55w HIDs instead of the normal 35w.
