Default Question about tires for my 4x4 HD 2500.

i have a 01 2500 HD 4x4 crew cab. i bought the truck from the dealer w/ 16x8 (i think they are 8's) AR wheels. they have 265/75/16 BFG A/T TA's on them. i was thinking of going up a size. what issues would i see w/ 285/75/16's? i DO NOT want to lift the truck at all cause i still need it to be able to fit in my garage. i only have about 2-3 inches of clearance now. i do need to raise the front a little w/ just the 265's (i'll crank on the torsion bars) as they rub just a little then i turn like into a driveway and one side compress's into the inner fender some. sugestions and feedback please.

Normally the 265's clear without a problem, but yours are rubbing most likely due to the offset of the aftermarket wheels.. If your rubbing now, even if you raise the torsion bars you still might have a clearance issue with the bigger tires. May be with different wheels and raising the bars you could fit the bigger tire, I know some shops like NTB will test fit one so you know. Goodluck

I would raise the torsion bars first, then check your clearance, the go to BFG homepage and check on measurements. I know the pre 99 body style 285's fit without a problem. FYI make sure you get the truck aligned right after you raise the bars, Or check with your alignment shop to see if they can do it because the align racks are nice level surface for even measurements.

I have 285/75 16 tires on my truck with the torsion bars cranked up 6 turns. I only rub once in a great while. I run stock wheels. I agree with this guy, the aftermarket may be reducing your tire clearance.

I have an 03 2500HD with 285's on 16x8 with a 4.5" BS. I have the front lifted 2" using the "green" keys to level things out. I had to trim very little off the front bumper cover and I used zip ties to pull the inner fender back for clearance. I have no problems with rubbing. As mentioned before, if you have rubbing with 265's I would check the BS of those wheels. On a 16x8, 4.5" BS is the minimum you can run without issues otherwise they stick out too far and cause rubbing issues. On stock wheels you can go 285 easy and even 305 are being used although they are not recommended for the stock wheel width.

Its a different torsion bar key that allows you to crank your bars, but not affect the ride of your truck as much as just cranking the stock keys. Do a search, there is info on them here and on ther forums.
