I was under the impression that you couldn't do that to a chrome bumper but last weekend I saw a sierra that was blacked out from head to toe and when I asked the guy he said he scuffed up the chrome and powdercoated over it. Looked damn freaking good!! Been like that for 4 years and still looked good. I bought a paintable bumper from Street scene. And there is also a bumper you can buy from the dealer that they put on their work trucks that are paintable but I don't know the part number for it.

Our conservation officers used 99-02 1500's, Green trucks, blacked out all the chrome, scuffed them and flat blacked it all.. lmao

The bad thing with sanding the chrome down and painting is that within 6 months, rock chips will be everywhere if it's your daily driver. Trust me, mine did that.

IMO, get either a paintable one and use plenty of flex agent or sand yours down and get it powdercoated.
