Default Cleared Denali Lights...... Seriously

OKAY.....

Now I couldn't freaking believe all the nonsense that I saw on the similar thread reguarding clearing the Denali Lights, so I am going to start my own real post "THAT ACTUALLY HELPS" you guys all out.

I cleared only the right headlamp of my OEM projectors, I didn't like it that much since the amber has grown on me on these lights, and the cops seem to hate me around here so I'll get ticketed for sure w/o the reflectors in.

Anyways, I thought i posted how to do this on GMFS, but apparently not.

First thing to do would be to get a heat gun handy becasue it will help in the end when the glue wants to "Re-stick"... also you will need a Dremel tool and some cut-off disks(a bunch of them cuz you'll go through alot and break a few if you aren't careful).

Now take the lights out and pull off all the metal retaining clips....

Pretty much start the dremel on the bottom edge so if you have any mess-ups you won't see them.... Then, run the dremel with the cut-off wheel directly along the crease of the plastic housing and the clear casing. Try and get as close to the clear lens as possible without cutting it.... Now graze SLOWLY over and over until you can start to see the disk penetrate the glue..... don't worry about cutting all the way thorugh and going too deep, becasue you are going to have to Re-Seal the lights back with Automotive all-weather silicone/adhesive.

I would start on the bottom edge under the amber lens then come up the side and get the side portion off first then eventually work your way all the way around..... Use flat head screw drivers and push them in the crease when you have cut through the glue line(BUT DON'T TRY AND PRY THE LENSES OFF!!!!!).... they are very frail and the edges WILL crack on you.... use the screw drivers and slide them along as you go(two may work better so you can alte3rnate one after the other, and so on...)....

now once you get going on the casing and it has started to pull away, you can try the heat gun to help you out, but I had noticed that the heat gun will heat the glue up and it will get tacky and might try and re-stick on you, so watch it.

... I can't think of much else, but this is how I did it and I will be GLAD to help out with any other questions you guys have on this.

o yeah.... I used LocTite Black RTV silicone(adhesive/sealant) that I bought at OSH to re-seal the lamps.... This step was fairly hard to do with no leaks, so you might have to try and re-seal them... then wait a few days and see if you get any condensation and then re-apply more if it leaks.

edit: I also noticed that cutting away the glue seemed better than pulling and the casing, because these casing WILL crack on you real easy if you aren't careful... the best virture of this project would be patience by far, so plan on working for at least an hour and a half on each light.

Great post Chris! See this is how your supposed to do things! Help people out! I'm not even interested in this mod but I know a lot of other people are. Great work! I guess Automoverride's secret is out! Well I should say his cousin's!! LOL

You should also post this on GMFS too.

ohh yea he was an ***, wouldnt tell anyone anything to help anybody out.
anyway I did this mod too on my sierra lights before I got bought my cleared halo projectors. The cutting thing is a good idea! But instead of a heat gun, I used nail polish remover with acitone which ate some of the glue away and made it easier to pull off. then you dont have the risk of having it stick back together with the heat gun

Sorry if this is a dumb question but what is a dremel tool and cut-off disks?
