Bumper Splitters for Trucks?
#11
Besides the aggrisive look...It provides smoother aerodynamics In the front. By reducing tha drag under the front end of the truck. The lower the truck the more effeciant the splitter works. And to some extent, yes TXsilverado is correct. We got up to 135 in the Lightning before the splitter and he had a bit of a shimmy going on. Once we put the splitter on the shimmy was gone. My take from is that it reduced the drag from undernedth and pushed the front end down. Which is what general research has shown and proved.

Would be interested in one for my 2007 Silverado Classic and also my 2005 GMC Sierra. I use the 2007 (2006 Model Produced Before the NNBS Were Produced) for autocrossing and depending on the design would definitely be interested. Would be willing to work with you on the design!!

I had very bad aero problems after about 135-140 mph with mine. Basic stock unmodified body 2006 rcsb. Mines a drag truck though so it is a little different app but still kind of on the same subject. At that time I was running a 29.5x10.5 ET Drag rear tire on a double bead locked 12" wheel. Around 140 mph it would just start spinning and I damn near lost complete control over the truck. One time even taking out the 1000', 1320' and 1320 mph cones at the track. The very next day I sent the truck back to the chassis shop and The Madman did me up a real nice carbon fiber bed cover and wing. I then switched to a 29.5x10.5 Stiff tire on the same wheel and the truck has run straight as an arrow every pass since. It has been as fast as 154 mph in the quarter and it was so smooth from that point on, the thing damn near drove it self.
I think the splitter thing looks cool as **** in most applications. Haven't really seen one on a fullsize truck though so not sure if it would look out of place or not. I'm currently putting the truck back together with goal speed somewhere in the 165-170 mph range and was wondering if I could benefit (from a safety stand point and in the looks department) from a mod like this.

I may need to clarify the statement above about it starting to spin at 140 mph. The driveshaft sensor was showing some spike in driveshaft speed indicating a loss in traction, but it was not drastic. Not like it was smoking the tires at 140 mph. It was mostly just getting the *** end of the truck very light and causing the thing to really start swaying around with the front still planted.
