Brake Upgrade Project (Completed 4.17.04)
#51
I'm going to stay with Dot 3. I don't really have a reason to swith up to dot 4 or anything. Plus if I'm driving miles from home and I need brake fluid, I can hit the nearest gas station and pick some up without worry.

How difficult is it to change out the rotors, lines, pads, etc?? To be more specific, Id like to do the Baer +1 for the fronts, powerslots for the rear, Hawk pads, powdercoated calipers, and Stainless lines. Is this something someone with average mechanical ability can do correctly or should it be left to someone with more experience??

A word on the powder coating. I'll be honest and say that yes the results turned out very good but it was a PITA to disassemble each caliper. It's not hard, just a PITA. In order to powder coat them you have to remove the bracket from the caliper then completely strip the calipers and brackets of all rubber parts. That means removing the pistons to get at the o-rings inside the caliper housing and the rubber insert pressed into the body of the front brackets. The powder coating process relies on heat to bake the finish on. The particular red that was used on the calipers required 30 minutes at 400 degrees to bake the paint. If you don't want to go through the hassle, try a caliper painting kit or get some aftermarket calipers that are already painted. That being said, if you really want your stockers powder coated, go for it. I'm happy with the way mine turned out.

Got some new pics. I just got the front calipers back from the powder coater and all is well.
I re-assembled them today and got them installed on the truck. I'm just about done with this project. Here are the pics.

Here's a sneak pic of them behind the new wheels.
