the 03s still havent grown on me, but i like the 06 more.

I'm not a fan of the split 06 grille personally, but I do like the hood. The 03-05's have just recently grown on me, I think they look good with an SS bumper.

on the 06s i like how hte hood line stays straight instead of having the notch that comes up.

Hmmm, could you run a billet grille in an 03-05 "1500" grille to make it work w/ the 05-06 "HD" hood?

I would be close, but I would say no. If you look at the line on the 05-06 "HD" hood the line that is above the headlights that is diagonal stops at the end of the headlight (Like in the pic below), and with the 03-04 has the grill part around the edge that the hood line follows an inch and a half further. The HD hood would go straight across and the grill would keep going down at an angle a little at the inside corner of the headlight, making a little triangle gap. It would bug the **** out of me.
I am not a fan of the new grill, but I do like the hood If they made a aftermarket better style insert for the new grill I would swap over to the HD setup
