an 80e behind a N/A 5.3, or even one on dope wouldn't be my first choice. A good transmission builder can put together a 60e that will hold up.

I wouldn't worry about the Lightning until he goes to an aftermarket blower.

lolwut.

Why in the world would you spend (waste) all the time and money building a 60E, when a junker 80E w/ shift kit would hold up better? I've got a built 60E in my 3200 lb. truck, and I'm afraid that the thing is starting to give. 80E, and no worries. Set it and forget it.

Hmm ok...

4l60e

1st-3.059:1
2nd-1.625:1
3rd-1.000:1
4th-0.696:1

4l80e

1st 2.482:1
2nd 1.482:1
3rd 1.000:1
4th 0.750:1

Not a great option behind a cam only street truck, imo. Especially with a 5.3. My 60e is holding up great behind my cammed 6.0. Other builds on this site with 4l60e's putting A LOT more power to the ground than my truck is. Like I said, find a good builder.

I have a pretty decent builder local. He has built a 4l60 for me that was great, but it was just behind a bolt on 5.3. He also built a 4l70 behind a cam and sprayed tbss my buddy had and it held up well. Hes a real honest guy.

Although, its about 1800 for a 4l60 from him then add another 400 on for a converter. A 4l80 is about 600 here then add 800 for a converter. The 4l80 is more budget friendly.

It seems everyones concerns about a 4l80 is the first gear ratio. That is very understandable. I think the closer gear ratios, and less split between the gears, is a benefit though.

Im up in the air on it still. My goal is 400 - 450 rwhp on the juice and i BEAT on my truck as well. Id just rather spend the money right the first time. So, everyones opinions are welcome.

Yeah, but you're comparing the cost of a zero mile transmission, rebuilt to handle power, to a used transmission. A used transmission of unknown condition.

Running a shorter gear ratio would help. But then, unless you do the work yourself, you are adding a lot more to your budget.

Id definitely go with a 80 if I had a boosted engine or a maybe a 400+ cu in. stroker. I'm sticking with my 60, for what I want.

Ive got a baby cam only LQ4 and a stock 80E.. love it

I wouldnt have it any other way.
Unless you have actually drive the same truck with a 60E and then with the 80E, the gear ratio thing is all speculation with numbers that dont look right.

I wouldnt waste money on a 60E, but thats just me. Ive learned my lesson and that wont happen again.

I'm glad that someone on the site knows what the fck they're talking about, rather than stating bullshit ratios, never having ran an 80E in their life, because they drive just fine.

Why do you want to run your mouth like that, and **** all over this guy's thread?

Did you happen to notice the relatively large cam in the lm7? You want to put a 4l80e behind that? Are you ******* retarded? Nobody said there was a problem with how they drove. I think its going to slow his truck down. And that was and is my entire point.

Bullshit ratios, I like that. Good post dood

It's not hard to build a 60e to handle what he's putting down, power wise.

The **** do you know about what I've driven? Why don't you calm down and realize this is just an internet discussion.
