Alright its been a little while since I have updated any of you.
The fluid in my trans smells pretty well cooked. I'm cutting my ties with this unit. I'm not taking ANY shortcuts and I'm buying a fully built unit. I think I'm leaning toward a Jake's transmission Level 3 4L80e with billet input shaft and FWD clutch hub (if you have an experience or info to toss in speak now, or forever hold your peace). They are offering great deals right now, and since my current tranny looks so clean I will be able to sell it for good money being completely honest about its condition and what I know.
The unfortunate reality is that the built unit will take a while to receive. It almost wipes out all chances that I will make it to New England Dragway before they close for the Winter on Oct 31. Not the end of the world by any means, but definitely a bummer.

I'm in the same situation you are with the trans. Mines started making bad noise a couple months after putting 550-600 rwhp to a stock unit. Can't complain I got 4 years out of a junkyard trans. A built trans seems the way to go if you consider all the time and money you have lost in the JY crapshoot.

Yup that pretty much sums it up.
Also as an update, I'll be going the FLT route. They have what seems like a spotless reputation around here, and they also have great deals right now. Now its just a matter of time... I have one last hail mary looking at the boost valve again, but as I said I think the clutches are already glazed. At this point its just for my own peace of mind knowing if I screwed it up or not.

I have essentially the same 4L80 except built by Ace Racing Transmissions. You will love it!!! I was worried about the taller 1st gear but its so much better than the 4L60 you will ask yourself why you didn't do this sooner. Good Luck!!

I havent updated here in a while.
Its been one hell of a journey with this damn transmission... I learned a ton and had a fun weekend pulling it out in my garage on my back
I got it all sorted out, and it works great under normal driving conditions. However, I think the damage I did to the clutches was too much and when I go WOT it slips
Looks like I'll be calling FLT after all. Chuck has been a huge help through all of this.

I was able to track down a console from an 02 Tahoe z-71 this weekend which matches my interior nearly perfectly.
I think this is one of the coolest mods I've done to this truck. I love it! Well... coolest outside of the engine mods...
Just so you all know... this is what the console looks like in an 02 Tahoe. I needed the console from the earlier interior because the console is split in 2, where as the newer ones have a very similar shape, but it is all one piece.

And here it is in my ride!

The seats alone keep it nice and snug, but I had to make a bracket to raise the front a little and secure it a little more.

And there is a JL Audio stealth box inside the console that I will be wiring up with a 10" W3 to give the stereo system a little more guts. The Factory LUX stereo is pretty good, but I think this will add just enough without overpowering the speakers.

Next on the interior project list is to hook up the heaters in these rear buckets. I need to figure out exactly where I will mount the factory switches. I'd like to wire them in as close to factory as possible.
