The crossmember holding the tailshaft?
To be honest I've only installed one tranny dipstick and I thought I did it as the last thing because it's easier to get the headers in first...but now I'm wondering if it wasn't the opposite...
Ooooohhh well...this is gonna be more fun!!

I always install the dipstick tube at the same time as the trans. You may find yourself in quite a pickle once its time to insert your dipstick.

you should beable to sneak the trans tube in if you pull the header on the right side, but yea. need to do that at the same time...

You can get the trans dipstick in with the trans and motor in there but I promise you it is a major PITA! You just have to be a little forceful with it.

Decided to leave the truck alone today, got too many other things I wanna do and I think i need a break from it!
I did take a look at the tranny dip stick and I see where the hang up is. I think if I pull the passenger side header though that it should clear. (fingers crossed) Hey did you guys charcold-bowtie and colekill have your exhaust manifolds off when you put the dip-stick in or had you removed them? Was that one of the bigger hang ups?

I did hook the battery up and turned the key to the on position. Was fun to see the truck hum with excitement at the possibility of running. I "read" the tune that's in the truck so I could send it to a friend and figured since I had the battery hooked up I might as well prime the fuel lines and check for leaks. Cycled the key about 6 or 7 times and didn't see any leaks at first glance. I did smell fuel but the tank vent is still open and purging into the engine bay so that's probably what that was.

I did hear a small beep or faint alarm whine in the engine bay though, I want to say it's the sound of a pump running dry but it's not nearly that loud unless it's a tiny tiny pump. Are there any alarm buzzers in the engine bay? Keep in mind there are no fluids in the truck what-so-ever so it could be the sound of a small pump! I'll investigate more once I get some fluids in her.

Also, truck won't be starting for at least a few days, there's a small issue that needs to be figured out with the PCM right now. Fuzzy on the exact details but the PCM that's in there now it Cable operated and there needs to be a DBW conversion done to it. We'll see what happens.

on my 80 is, it really likes to bind on the back corner of the head and the firewall on my sig truck. If you drop the tranny cross member and let the motor lean back a little bit it goes in a lot easier.
