Thanks I will look him up and give him a call. I've also used High Tech transmissions with great success in the past, good people!

Some things that I'm posting are probably redundant, but for others just getting into this I will post some pictures for reference!

Torn down and painted, waiting on bearings, lifters, and new main bolts.. Come on brown santa hurry up!

Heads have been cleaned, new brass guides, 3 angle grind, dual springs installed, decked, and bagged ready for assembly!

Upgraded the stock rockers to the Comp Cams Trunion Kit... as you may know the stockers can fall apart and toss needle bearings like these. Just as a note I didnt have my own press so I had the shop do it. Wasn't thinking how time consuming it was and they charge by labor, so the price was a little high just for that. A shop press from Harbor Freight would have only been $60

Little Update: things really slowed down while putting the engine back together. Quite a few things I bought hastily without doing enough research, one thing about putting a motor together don't just "assume" that what your buying will fit without modification. For example I bought a double roller timing chain and that coupled with my Melling 10296 oil pump made it impossible to fit the front cover on. I grinded A LOT on the cover to the point where I was uncomfortable going any further so I went with a single roller. Also went with different rod bolts the ARP's I first purchased required me to resized the rods, which was the same overall price as just selling my ARP's and purchasing Katechs that supposedly do not require resizing of the rods, although some may argue that. Problem with rod resizing also is the fact my crank was balanced already with the rods untouched grinding them would require the crank balanced once again! One more thing PR's had to be sent back, my original idea was to re-use the lifters but decided to just replace them with LS7's. That took me shorter than he original 7.4's I bought! LOL

Not complaining though just posting here so someone might catch these things before-hand unlike me, although these things are common knowledge for some HaHa!

Well this a picture as she sits with an intake mock-up for fun. Waiting on PR's ATM. Will start on the tranny next, and then take out the old and busted 5.7! No real ETA for now since time and money are always of the essence...

Looks good man. I used a comp double roller in my 408. You just have to pair it with an SLP oil pump. It is clearanced so the cover fits without any modification. Just for future reference. Keep up the good work

I read your first post and didnt notice the date, but the things that popped out at me where the exact things you had issues with...Go with ARP rod bolts instead of katech, and dont assume you need 7.35 rods, get a PR length tool and measure.

I run the same melling oil pump and a rollermaster double chain and didnt have to touch the front cover....what timing set did you have?

This one from Summit:
Summit Racing SUM-G6602-B - Summit Racing Street & Strip® Timing Sets - Overview - SummitRacing.com
So many people I read had the same issue that I decided to just go straight with a single. I know the SLP is recessed enough that the clearance issue is resolved, but I'd already bought a Melling from someone here.

I assumed the PR length, in the beginning, since at first I was leaving everything stock, but when it was all said and done LS7 lifters, heads milled, etc. I purchased a PR checker from Comp, and found zero lash to be 7.275 + preload .075 = 7.35

After everything I read about ARP rod bolts installed on used rods I didn't want to chance the distortion issue some members have come across. Katech "supposedly" doesn't require resizing, guess we shall see. Some things, I am sure, might be overboard but I don't want to have to tear it down again.

Thanks man! Ya my fault for researching it too late.

Aside from a wife and kids, I recently went back to college to further my "edumacation" and did not have much time for my truck build (blasphemy I know)! I did however have a little time off this summer so I started to work on her once more while researching parts over and over. The thing is I still do not have a definitive time frame in which this will all be completed, but I thought I would share what I have done thus far:

Engine

Pinned the crank a couple months ago and did not have any pins left so I contacted a company who custom makes steel dowels for any length and size. Only thing is I had to buy them in bulk. So if anyone needs some lemme know hah!

Installed a timing chain dampner from TEA onto my block that did not have the pre-existing holes. Worked like a charm. Also went with a single chaine because I could not fit the melling pump along with the double roller.

Bought a Trick Performance cast manifold (thanks Rick), and I can say the craftsmanship is top notch.

Decided to go DBW instead of DBC because the changes necessary were not to my liking considering I already have a DBW setup. So an 87mm TB and X-Link are now part of the family.

Talked with John at PSI Conversion and had him build me a custom harness, and received it within the week I ordered it as well. Fast shipping, great customer service, and excellent workmanship on the harness. I recommend PSI 110%

Transmission

Installed the Transgo HD2 Shift kit myself all the way up to the internal parts and that I had my tranny guy install. Obviously not everyone has their transmission out of their vehicle so maybe this step gets missed or is not extremely important? Never thought to ask first thought it was integral to the whole kit. Anyways new seals and filters were added as well and the internals looked great so it is ready to go.

Went with a Circle D Tripple Disc 1a which I believe is somewhere in the ballpark of a 2800 stall.

Rearend

What is everyones thoughts here about a 14 bolt? I find them on craigslist quite frequently here for cheap so I wonder if I should do the 14 or build my 10 bolt? Suggestions are welcome!

Turbo

I am still deciding on a turbo, and am leaning towards a Borg Warner since so many are having great success. Question is what would be the best one for my build that would have good street personality as well as a few passes at the track?

A little headway!

Took out the old and busted 350 just the other day (which was quite possibly done on the hottest day of the "fricking" year) and set the old beast aside. I disassembled the whole front end since she is 25 years old and could use some cleaning up and fresh coats of paint. Not too mention its so much easier working at it from this direction instead of an angle.

I am gonna be a photo junkie a bit and post some pictures of the progress for those who would like to see, here you go!

Still have A LOT to do so I will keep everyone posted as things progress.

Yea about that timing cover...turns out I did need to trim it to fit...missed that the first time.

You could do a 76/87 BW on a 1.25ar, should spool great and run good!

Yeah that cover would have been destroyed if I went any further with it, kind of silly Melling didn't realize that before hand. Went with a strong single chain instead. Pain in the butt buying parts only to have to sell them... Lol

Thanks Atomic for suggesting that turbo I certainly will look into it!
